This is a relatively new sport which was created in around 1999 in the hot, windy waters of Hawaii. It is without doubt the fastest growing water sport of the moment. The kite surfer uses a specific type of board and a kite (kite or wing) operated by a control bar connected to the board by two, four, or more lines (cables) which are long and thin and either in dyneema or spectra. Unlike windsurfing, kitesurfing can be practiced with winds that are deemed “weak” allowing for remarkable tricks, speed and acceleration.
